Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What type of church is Maranatha Community Church?
Maranatha is a Seventh Day Baptist Fellowship … and we’re all about helping people find and follow Jesus. We believe it is possible for church to be the highlight of the week for the entire family. We know this happens when we focus everything on Jesus, connect in community, and learn straight from the Bible.
2. When and where are the services?
Services are on Saturday mornings at 11:00am. We meet at 937 S. Via Lata #300 in Colton. (The nearest intersection is Cooley Drive and Mt. Vernon Avenue … here’s a map) The entire service lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
3. Why on Saturdays?
We are a Baptist church that is a little different. Our Statement of Beliefs is orthodox and evangelical, and we hold to the same distinctives that set apart all Baptists from other denominations. But as Seventh Day Baptists, we also observe the seventh day Sabbath. (Click here for more information.)
4. What will happen when I visit for the first time?
If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many people want to check out the church and “be anonymous” for a while — and that’s fine with us! Come in, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you.
5. What is the worship like?
We invite you to join us each week as we worship together. Our services begin with contemporary praise and worship music. We encourage everyone to participate. Worship isn’t just a filler before the message … it’s the reason we come together! It’s a powerful and personal way to connect our hearts with God. You’ll also notice a lot of variety in how people participate in the worship time: some sit, others stand, some raise their hands. How you respond to God in worship is up to you; all we ask is that you go after God with all your heart, giving Him your very best.
6. What are your sermons like?
You can expect to hear a compelling sermon instilled with a strong Biblical foundation and a focus on the Gospel. (You can see some of our recent sermons here.)
7. Do I need to dress up?
Nope. Maranatha is a church for everyone, and we like you just the way you are. You’ll find everything from casual clothes to business suits at our Saturday service.
8. What about my children?
At Maranatha we love kids! From toddlers to elementary age, we have done our best to help your children have a blast while learning about Jesus. At 9:00am we offer our AWANA program where children from Kindergarten through sixth grade can discover and develop a passion for God. Through teaching and a variety of fun activities, children are exposed to God’s Word and challenged to grow in their relationship with God. During our 11:00am service, we have childcare services for children under 10.
9. What if I’m not sure about Christianity?
Perfect. That’s why we started the church. You can explore faith at your own pace.
